Sweetnam LLC’s Managing Member, William M. Sweetnam, has spent the past fifteen years concentrating exclusively in the area of class action and complex litigation, prosecuting hundreds of consumer, shareholder and antitrust class action in federal and state courts across the country.  Mr. Sweetnam and his firm has acted as lead counsel, co-lead counsel and has been a member of the executive and steering committees in consumer, antitrust and other class action, complex and multidistrict litigation matters. 

Prior to founding Sweetnam LLC in 2008, Mr. Sweetnam was a partner at a Chicago class action litigation boutique, where he perfected his skills representing victims of consumer fraud and deceptive and anti-competitive practices.  Mr. Sweetnam has extensive litigation experience in a variety of nationwide class actions in state and federal courts alleging violations of consumer fraud and deceptive trade practices statutes, breach of warranty and violations of federal securities laws, shareholder derivative suits and appeals.

Mr. Sweetnam began his career as a class action and complex litigation practitioner with Schiffrin & Craig, Ltd. (now Barroway Topaz Kessler Meltzer & Check, LLP), one of the largest class action law firms in the United States, where he was part of a team of lawyers involved in prosecuting class actions challenging abusive marketing practices in several areas involving life insurance and annuities. These cases led to class settlements valued at hundreds of millions of dollars, and sometimes even billions of dollars, with such major life insurance companies as Prudential, Met Life, John Hancock, New York Life, State Farm, American Express/IDS, Transamerica, and many others, as well as to numerous changes in industry sales practices.

Mr. Sweetnam continued his career at one of Chicago's oldest and most respected class action litigation firms, Krislov & Associates, Ltd., where he represented consumers and investors engaged in an array of nationwide class actions in state and federal courts involving everything from consumer fraud to breach of warranty and securities and shareholder derivative lawsuits and appeals.

Mr. Sweetnam began his career as a lawyer representing plaintiffs in catastrophic injury cases in 1994.  In 1995, he began defending corporate, insurance industry and insurance policyholder clients.  

Mr. Sweetnam is a graduate of The University of Michigan and the De Paul University College of Law where he received the American Jurisprudence Award in Constitutional Law and was a member of the Journal of Art and Entertainment Law.  He has written and lectured on class actions and class action litigation reform.

Mr. Sweetnam was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  He is married with three children, and resides in Lake Forest, Illinois.

Steven M. Sprenger is the sole member and the managing partner of Sprenger + Lang PLLC and a resident of that firm's Washington, D.C., office.  Mr. Sprenger has served as lead or co-lead counsel in numerous employment class actions, including gender discrimination class actions against C.H. Robinson and Morgan Stanley, and race discrimination class actions against Torotel and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas.  He has served as trial counsel in both jury and non-jury trials, including Baty v. Willamette Industries, a sexual harassment and retaliation case resulting in a $1.35 millions verdict for his client, and Hill v. Republic of Iraq, a human rights case resulting in bench judgments in favor of his clients totaling over $80 million.

Mr. Sprenger received his B.A. from Grinnell College in 1985 and his J.D., with high distinction, from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1988.  During law school, he was a member of the Iowa Law Review and Moot Court Board.  Mr. Sprenger is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Maryland, and holds a Martindale Hubbell rating of "AV."  In 2007, he was recognized by Lawdragon magazine as one of the "500 Leading Plaintiffs' Lawyers in America."

Michael D. Lieder is a managing partner of Sprenger + Lang PLLC's labor and employment practice and a resident of that firm's Washington, D.C., office since 1991.  Mr. Lieder received his B.A. from Haverford College in 1977 and graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center in 1984, where he was an editor of the Georgetown Law Journal.  After graduation, Mr. Lieder he was an associate for six years in Madison, Wisconsin in the law firm of Foley & Lardner, and served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Toledo College of Law in 1990-91.  Mike was lead attorney in a case against First Union that broke new ground in employee benefit ERISA litigation. 

Mr. Lieder co-authored a book, Wild Justice: The People of Geronimo vs. the United States, published by Random House in 1997.  He also has written numerous articles published in law reviews and journals such as the Washington Law Review, the Wake Forest Law Review, and the American Indian Law Review concerning issues in constitutional law, contract law, Indian law, and employment discrimination law.  In 2007, Mr. Lieder was recognized by Lawdragon magazine as one of the "500 Leading Plaintiffs' Lawyers in America."


Bryce Miller

Bryce Miller is an associate with Sprenger + Lang PLLC's Washington,  D.C., office.  Before joining Sprenger + Lang, Mr. Miller served as a law clerk to the Honorable Magistrate Judge Franklin L. Noel in the United States District Court, District of Minnesota for two years.  As a law student, Mr. Miller gained litigation and trial experience as a prosecutor and in defending clients through clinical programs of the University of Minnesota Law School.

Mr. Miller received his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2006 with a Certificate of Concentration in Labor and Employment Law.  While in law school, Mr. Miller was student articles editor of the Journal of Law and Inequality.  He received the Labor Law Outstanding Achievement Award from the Minnesota State Bar Association in 2005, and the Employment and Labor Law Award from the ABA/BNA in 2006 for academic excellence.  Bryce received his B.A., magna cum laude, in Mathematics and Secondary Education from the University of St. Thomas in 2003.

Mr. Miller is admitted to practice in Minnesota and the District of Columbia pursuant to D.C. App. Rule 49(c)(8).
